Evgeny Olegovich Matsievsky was born in the city of Magadan, Khabarovsk Territory, in 1945. He graduated from the Moscow Higher School of Industrial Art (Stroganov) in 1969.

Evgeniy's artistic method is characterized by perfected craftsmanship, knowledge of the deep traditions of etching, the search for new nuances of its technology, enriching the graphic language and content of the works. The artist's work develops from a certain mannerism, trepidation, emphasized grotesqueness of the image in engraving to the scale and generalization of the theme, philosophical metaphor, to unmistakable organization and balance in the composition.

Fantastic devotion to his work, hard work on each print, loving attitude to the man-made craft of etching are combined in the nature of the artist with the enthusiasm of the experimenter. From print to print, he varies the density and saturation of tone, the sharpness of the contrast of black and white, the intensity of shading, the overall tonal and color scheme (in many etchings, Maciewski uses color). The romanticism inherent in Maciejowski's early works, created in the 1970s, continues to develop in his mature years, when he more often prefers the classical understanding of etching.

Since 1970, he participated in art exhibitions, in 1975 he was admitted to the Moscow organization of the Union of Artists of the USSR. He was awarded a diploma from the Moscow City Organization of the Artistic Fund of the RSFSR in 1980 and 1986, as well as a diploma from the Moscow Union of Artists in 1982.
